根据 Business Wire 的消息，11月13日，Ethos Capital 和 Internet Society 达成收购 PIR ( Public Interest Registry )  协议，交易将于明年第一季度完成，而 PIR 正是 .org 域名的注册机构。意味着非营利性域名注册机构 PIR 正式成为营利性企业的一部分。

今年6月30日，互联网域名管理机构 ICANN 解除了 .org 域名年费上涨限制，允许 .org 域名费用不受限制。

从 NameSilo 的费用列表来看，其实 .org 域名的费用并不低，注册和续费都比 .com 的还要贵一点，大部分人认为 .org 域名的注册费用将大涨，但是 PIR 的 CEO Jon Nevett 在 Domain Name Wire 的评论说他们不会无缘无故涨价：

Our goal has always been to make .ORG accessible and reasonably priced – and that will continue under our new ownership. PIR has made reasonable decisions on price in the past, and we will uphold this spirit going forward. We would never make dramatic price increases as we know it would harm our registrants, as well as our registrars.
